I had never heard of Duchenne, a form of muscular dystrophy, until I met Luka and his father, Mazi, at a mutual friend’s house. Through them, I learned about and later met (on Zoom) Tushar, another dedicated father who is relentlessly fighting to find a cure for his two sons, both suffering from this terrible disease.
I was deeply moved by the unwavering dedication and effort that these two fathers have devoted to helping not only their own children, but many others affected by Duchenne. They have immersed themselves in understanding the disease and keeping abreast of the latest research by attending numerous medical conferences. Their self-taught expertise and perseverance are nothing short of impressive.
These fathers now believe they are on the brink of a breakthrough in research that could significantly aid in the fight against Duchenne. However, what they desperately need at this stage are the necessary funds to bring this promising research to a successful conclusion. Their journey and the hope they embody inspire me profoundly.
I support Hope for Luka because I believe in the power of hope, dedication, and community in making a difference. Board member and newly appointed Executive Director of Hope for Luka Inc., Tushar Tangsali, father of two sons with exon 8-25 deletions, has spearheaded this initiative. Through extensive research, he aims to fund studies benefiting his children and others with mutations within the first 26 exons of the dystrophin gene.
